The Internet has become increasingly important to getting an education. As an online student, your email account is a great lifeline that will keep you in touch with professors, classmates, and a number of different support systems Southern Miss has in place to help you.
Because you’re a Southern Miss student, you have access to a free Office Outlook email account, and accessing it is easy with this two-step process! To get started, all you will need are your SOAR credentials i.e. your student ID (which will look similar to “w123456” ) and your SOAR password.
Step 1:
Go to either outlook.com/usm.edu OR golden.usm.edu
This will take you to the login screen.
Step 2:
Use your SOAR credentials to login.
And voila! You can now access your emails, communicate with your professors, and even take advantage of the suite of Office 365 tools and downloadable software.
While you’re logged in, you can access all the tool within Office 365 by clicking on the square grid icon at the top on the left-hand side of the window. You can even download software like Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and more by clicking the Office 365 at the top of the drop-down menu. You can also set up Outlook on your computer by following the instructions on the iTech website.
If you need help setting up or changing your password or making changes to your account, you can follow the steps on iTech’s Campus ID site. There you can also find some FAQs and iTech contact information should you run into any other problems getting set up.
You even have the ability to stay in touch “on the go” by downloading the Outlook email app, available in your app store. If you need assistance on configuring your app, you can find help in the iTech website. Select your operating system: Apple iOS or Android. Faculty, staff, and active students are able to download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus applications on up to 5 devices.
Now that you’ve gotten your email set up, you have added to your arsenal of tools that will help you stay connected and on top of your assignments!
