You will need a USM application, resume, letter of interest, official transcripts, GRE scores, and three letters of recommendation.

How long is the program?

The program, including the final Capstone Project, may be completed over three years.

Is the program offered 100% online?

Yes, the online Education Administration Doctorate degree program is delivered 100% online.

Does the program require a dissertation?

No. Instead of a dissertation, this program requires a capstone research project that is focused on a real-world problem of practice that you encounter in your workplace. The capstone is completed in courses that are schedule alongside the content courses so that you will be able to complete the capstone as you complete the required coursework.

Can I transfer courses toward completion of this degree?

At the discretion of the academic program, the Ed.D. program will accept up to 18 transfer hours so long as the credits have not been applied to a previously conferred degree. Programs may accept fewer transfer hours. Any requested transfer credits must meet the following restrictions. The coursework to be transferred is time limited; it must have been taken within the time period allowed for the graduate degree program. The credit must carry a letter or numeric grade of “B” or better; courses assigned the grade pass/fail, satisfactory/unsatisfactory, incomplete “I”, or other ungraded designation cannot be transferred. Course credit applied toward another earned degree cannot be transferred. Non-content courses, such as thesis or dissertation research, cannot be transferred. Transfer grades will not be calculated in the USM GPA. Transfer credit is not automatic and will be awarded only after course content is evaluated and approved by the graduate committee chair and/or graduate committee, school director, and graduate dean. Students will supply syllabi, course descriptions, and other requested materials for review. For doctoral programs, final evaluation and acceptance of transfer credit will be made after the student has been enrolled for one semester. A total sum of no more than one-third (33%) of combined transfer and non-degree coursework may be applied toward a graduate degree.

Is the program really set to finish in 9 terms or is that just an average?

The program is delivered and completed in the cohort format. Students enroll in 2 classes (6 credit hours) each term (fall, spring, and summer) for 9 consecutive terms (3 years).

The online Educational Administration Doctorate is nationally recognized by CAEP/NCATE, and the program is aligned to the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) standards. It is a part time, fully online program redesigned to accommodate the schedule of current educators.
